Darla is a key figure in the film and as such had to be represented in the musical matching the new watercolor paper style treatment that we were working with. I modeled, UVed, textured, rigged, and animated Darla's hands and expressions. Final location translation information was later tweaked and handled in Unreal by Tony Reser.
The philosophy behind Darla's movements was to make her appear to be a part of the paper puppet dialogue we had established for the show, which is why she moves in and down like scenic pieces move in real life. This is also why she has limited facial animation, her eyes being the exception.
